Playful Plaque

Posted on 21:00 by Ashish Chaturvedi
What exactly is going on on this utterly bizarre ceramic wall hanging (wire already embedded for easy display)? Just a bunch of "chicks" in the most vibrant 1950s tableau of super-saturated color. Surreal in the best possible way. From Germany, but feels somehow more Scandinavian to me.
Measures 16"x 6"

Atomic Age Artifact

Posted on 21:23 by Ashish Chaturvedi
A wonderful work from another quirky master of her craft. Hertha Bengtson was associated with the renown Swedish company Rörstrand for an impressive 23 years. This piece, likely from around 1960, is clearly a unique studio vase. The extreme weight of the stoneware, as well as the hand inscribed sgraffito, lets us know it was not only her design... but her own hand that made this sputnik-like motif.
11" tall.

Publishing News

Posted on 22:35 by Ashish Chaturvedi
A favorite magazine in the shelter world will be making a special return from its periodical holding pattern. Domino, a Conde Nast title, folded three years ago to many disappointed readers. We had mentions in the stylish rag and we've missed its unique take on interior design. Come April 2012, a special edition will hit the newsstands...with the likelihood of subsequent seasonal issues in the works!

Striation Sensation

Posted on 22:01 by Ashish Chaturvedi
Porcelain made to look like multi-layered marble from a very special Studio Line series for Rosenthal, marking their centennial anniversary 1880-1979 (or more technically in anticipation of the celebration, I guess). Signed with both the '100 years' mark and the name Rosenthal.
10", oval in shape
